We have a new very close Friend that Lori is very fond of and looks up to.
When we met we knew he had cancer but he was upbeat about it.
Came back from Doc. visit today and was told it has spread and he is now in Stage 4 Cancer.

I don't know how I am going to tell Lori becuase she doesn't handle this kind of thing well and she will be a basket case over it.
He is the one that got her started in the Postage Stamping Hobby and we have been helping him 'teach' a few classes with the youth groups - now he may not be able to keep that up?

Did God send us that way starting a new hobby NOW for a reason? YES!

He will be leaving behind an apprentice. :hug3: for Lori. It's so hard to say goodbye. Cancer does give you the chance to do so, however. Some deaths come too fast.

Depending on what cancer your friend has, stage IV does not automatically mean that he will die soon. Several stage IV cancers can be managed via palliative chemo and radiation to extend both the time and quality of life that the person with the disease has.

Certainly not in every case, and with aggressive cancers palliative chemo and rad don't do much....but I will be hoping and praying that your friend will be with you much longer than anybody, including his doctor, thinks he will.

I feel so badly for both your friend and for you and Lori...cancer just sucks. There's no nice way to say it. :( But I know that your time together as he travels this very difficult road can and will be blessing to all of you...and how fortunate he is to have not only a person to carry on his love of stamp collecting, but two wonderful friends who are willing to walk this journey with him and offer him unconditional support and love until the end of the road.

God bless you...

I totally concur with TurtleMama - my father passed away last year after a 20 month battle with brain cancer. The hardest part of any catastrophic illness is the disappearance of friends and family.

If I could turn back time, I would have spent more time just being with my dad instead trying to do something to help him. I know he and my mom appreciated all I did do as they told me often.

Sending prayers for courage, serenity and wisdom for all...

With gentle hugs -

Thanks guys........................
He has had the 'big C' for some time but this trip to doc's confirmed that it is now thought his body in parts that doesn't take treatment well. He is an older gentleman and is ready to handle things as they come. We will enjoy the time we have left with him, which we hope will be a bit longer but as he said "you never know but is a peace with god'. I do need to sit her down and ‘talk’ about it before Saturday because we are going to a Stamp Auction and I don’t want someone there ask us how he is doing ‘with the news’ and THAT being her first time hearing it, or have him stand up at next meeting (Wednesday) and saying something. She is one of those people you can’t talk about death to but we all are going to do it someday .

I will keep you, Lori and your friend in my prayers. Accepting death is never easy. As to the stamping hobby, I think that you will agree that things come full circle. Your friend was put in your lives for a reason, just as my postage stamping friend was put into mine. He has shared something that he loves with the two of you and you will both be able to carry on a living legacy and be a testimony to the fact that he was here and that his life mattered. His gift to both of you is a memory to be cherished for always.
