  1. Hey Philbe , not sure if you noticed but this post started back a few years ago. Tx_woman hasn't been on the site since 2010... unless she's coming on anonymously. You might not get an answer.....
  2. Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping! Love that sound. Now I know it's probably better to use fresh fruit but this was so easy...and I can get fresh juice from the farmers market.
  3. Cranberry jalapeno sounds really good. Have a recipe for that? And...question....does anyone have a tip to get the pectin mixed in without clumping? Or is it not possible?
  4. Is this a good recipe? Pomegranate Jelly 4 cups pomegranate juice 7 1/2 cups white sugar 2 lemons, juiced 1 (6 fluid ounce) container liquid pectin Directions 1.Combine pomegranate and lemon juice with sugar in a large, stainless steel saucepan. Bring to boil over high heat, and at once stir in liquid pectin. Bring to a full rolling boil, and boil exactly 1/2 minute. Remove from heat, and skim off foam. 2.Ladle into hot, sterilized jars to within about 1/4 inch of the top. Seal, and process in a boiling water canner for 10 minutes.
  5. Nice Philbe. Things are really slow in my garden this year....I think its because the nights are cooling down too much.

  9. Haven't read them yet. Books one and two in a series. http://www.amazon.com/The-Survivors-Book-After-ebook/dp/B0049B31FW/ref=pd_cp_kstore_0 http://www.amazon.com/On-Road-Book-After-ebook/dp/B004BDOTZE/ref=pd_cp_kstore_3
  10. Thanks everyone. I'm feeling a little better although its still hard to talk to anyone about her. The house seems very quiet...as I said before...it seems like she always been there.

  12. Dh and ds18 are on the way to the vet teaching hospital to have Abby put to sleep. I can barely see through the tears. We had her ten years and she was the most loyal, most patient, smartest dog I have ever had. That summer I had to sit in the wheelchair with the broken leg....Abby was always right next to me. She mothered a litter of puppies with incredible patience....loved on any small child that came into the house....tolerated so much from the cats...and was ferocious when it came to protecting her chickens...one of whom used to sleep and lay eggs in the crate with her...she also would let that one particular chicken clean her fur. I'm going to miss her so much.
  13. I've thought of what we'd do without power and no a/c. My gas tank is full....we'd find a shady spot and hang out in the car to stay cool during the hottest part of the day. That's of course if the movie theater/library had no power.
  14. Make raisins on your grapevines! The grapes on my grapevine aren't ripe yet but this morning I noticed that on many of the bunches the lower halves are shriveling up. Can't pick'em. Just will try and keep watering .
  15. I am AH! I haven't had a single spasm in my Achilles tendons since I started using it. Not one. That in itself makes it worth it. My fingers also are not as stiff in the morning. As I said before it wasn't really working for the sciatica so I did break down and go to the doctor Friday. They gave me an anti inflammatory I've never used before and a muscle relaxant. I finally am getting some relief from that.
  16. Oh absolutely no way would I let them know we might be eating any of it. I know better. . Good idea on the pics.....
  17. I finally had time to go and ask at some of our local grocery stores for old produce for my chickens. First one I went to was the Nugget (local for my area)....said no due to liability issues. Then the Grocery Outlet....said they throw out every day..already doing it for someone with pigs. I went back later that afternoon and got a container full of cauliflower , a whole head of lettuce and a ton of green onions. The girls got the cauliflower that was bad ( there was a bunch that wasn't), the lettuce and some of the green onions. There were about 25 bunches of green onion...most where the greens were going bad. I chopped off the bad and will use the onions for us. Several bunches I kept the roots and will Regrow them. While I was asking the produce manager a lady came up and told me our local food coop does this too. So now I have two sources. I figure I'll go at least twice a week to supplement the chickens and use whatever is useful for us. Nothing like free food!
  18. Glad it worked out well for you. We had two days of rain which is so unusual for us the weather people were very excitedly talking about breaking records because any rain above zero would do that. Sheesh! Been thinking about all this odd weather we've been having and its affect on peoples ability to garden. It could be devastating during a shtf situation if you were only relying on gardens for your fresh veggies and fruit.
  19. I'm reading The End by G. Michael Hopf. Good read so far!
