  1. Would have been fun to meet Andrea but of course flying down the tracks that wouldn't work. :-) I'll be climbing aboard again on Sunday and go to San Diego. Tuesday I'll either start for home or head to Houston for a few days. Haven't decided which yet.
  2. Thanks everyone. I am truly having a good time with all this family. Four of we "girl" cousins are having a slumber party Monday night. Tomorrow morning I'm having breakfast with school friend I haven't seen for 24 years and then I'll just have to wait and see what else comes up. What fun it all is.
  3. Heading to L. A. On Amtrak and it's finally daylight. We're going through Stockton and, like most cities, it's in a dirty, cruddy part of town but a fun trip all the same. Don't know when I'll be headed home. Have only been gone a week so far.
  4. Arrived about 11:30 pm. Daughters wedding is tomorrow. She and her husband will leave on their honeymoon Sunday morning and then I'm free to go home or wander the state. Lots of family out here so I think I'll probably wander awhile. Should be fun!!!
  5. I love seeing the pictures Worm Guy. Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you and others have more to post. Will you put names with the first group of people?
  6. We've never lived in the woods but have camped and hiked them. I've either lived in the burbs of LA or out in the open farmland of Iowa. I think the woods would be great to help keep the winds from blowing so much, especially the miserable winter wind, like it does here but I love the openness where I can see forever. So, I don't think I'd be afraid of the woods but I am afraid I'd feel awfully hemmed in and maybe even claustrophobic.
  7. Philbe, "the nesting impulse" makes me think babies.....no, no, no I want no babies so I prefer hibernation mode! The chicken sounds good Ambergris. This household loves onions AND garlic so I understand completely. Last week I did 59 breakfast burritos. I had sausage and bacon both in the freezer so I got it all out, cooked it up and have some sausage and some bacon burritos ready. DH and DS both love them so they probably won't last long. Lovinit, I put a double batch of sweet rolls in the freezer for DH too. The individual sweet potato pies sound delicious. I think I am done for awhile!!!
  8. Oh man, I hate that kind of mess. It just makes you wonder why you bother doesn't it!!! My advice, just get it taken care of so you can quit stewing about it and get it put behind you. (((((Jeepers)))))
  9. Wonderful news Robie....congratulations!!!
  10. What a great picture! Don't you just love those nature views that pop into your life and then pop right out again. Just gives you a downright special feeling for the day doesn't it! Thanks for sharing Annarchy!
  11. What a lot of work! I made a double batch of cinnamon rolls a couple days ago using 7 cups of flour. I kneaded it by hand and it wasn't a bad job BUT I can't imagine kneading that much dough at one time. YIKES! Fun read though and I enjoyed it.
  12. Glad he didn't break the window. Cool imprint.
  13. I have 2 dishwashers too dogmom4.....GE and me. The other 3 grew up and left home....DARN kids!!! I now am in the mess of making breakfast burritos. I have 50 tortillas ready, bacon and sausage both cooked. Am waiting for the scrambled eggs to cool down before putting them together. THEN I am done with all this for awhile!!! NO, I'm not I have to clean the kitchen one last time!!!
  14. I'll have to look next time I'm in town. They look cool!
  15. "Ain't" that the truth Philbe!!! Dishes galore today. I have a dishwasher but all the pots and pans don't fit but thank heavens tonight they're all done and put away. Phew, it's been a busy day!!!
  16. Yep, looks like we're getting in the hibernating mode. It won't be long but hopefully at least another 4-6 weeks before winter hits hard. Funny how our bodies get the feeling for the season!
  17. I read about your potatoes somewhere else Philbe. Sounds like a cool idea. I have some potatoes to deal with and hadn't decided yet what to do. Thinkk I'll give your idea a try. Oh yeah AH, I use the crockpot a lot. Start something in the morning before chores and no matter what the rest of the day brings supper will be ready when we are. Yep Deerslayer, today was ground beef day. I was in Des Moines over the weekend and stopped at Wal-Mart on the way home. Found 80% ground beef for $2.20 lb. (something like that). Bought 15 lbs. and dealt with it today. Next?
  18. I was gone all weekend and did no cooking so I was in the mood to get some OMC (once a month cooking) done this morning. 23 hambuger patties cooked and to the freezer. 2 9X13 pans of lasagna frozen in individual servings 1 Dutch oven of chili sitting on the stove cooling. I'll put 1 1/2 cups in each bag and freeze later. Our closest restaurant is 20 miles from us so we seldom just run out for supper. I do like to be gone sometimes (DH loves home and never wants to leave ) and when I am this gives him a main dish to start with. It makes me feel better about leaving him for a weekend or longer. I don't really go often so this food should last most of the winter, if not all. How about it? Anyone else doing any OMC getting ready for winter?
  19. Oh cool Andrea. I'll be anxious to hear what you think of it.
  20. I was such a fan of the Harry Potter books that the librarian saved The Casual Vacancy, by Rowling, for me to have first. I was anxious to gve it a try!!! Oh my, I've given up before I've hardly started. It is just nothing and ridiculously boring. I am so disappointed as the Potter books were such fun with her imaginative and wonderful stories. I don't see anything in this book to make me believe that the author is really Rowling. How could she be so good in the others and so HORRIBLY BAD in this one??? Becca, you loved the Potter books too, didn't you? I'm anxious to see what you or anyone else has to say about this one. I do hope it's just me and that the rest of you love it!!!!
  21. I know, I know, I don't need to add another picture BUT this was my view this morning as I sat in my recliner having a cup of coffee. It's just so beautiful that I couldn't reisist. It won't last long as soon the trees will be bare and the winter cold and winds will begin. What extremes we have here.
  22. One of our exchange students was from Bogota Colombia and she said the average temperature there is 60 degrees BUT I don't want to go there!
  23. We used to shoot out in the desert often when we lived in CA. Loved it!!!
  24. What a pretty place to be. Hopefully it can just stay a nice R&R place for you but if you must but out it looks nice!
