  1. good ideas I was excited to find the jolly rancher hard candies in red and green on clearance (in those plastic candy canes)
  2. oh no, your poor dd and kitty. I hope everything goes well with the procedure tomorrow, and that they keep your daughter up to date so she isn't worrying all day.
  3. (((dogmom))) I'm so sorry losing a pet is hard, I still tear up over my bunny and parakeet who passed away a couple of years ago I am so sorry for your losses
  4. For me the things that stand out from 2012 are the lessons learned -- I've had some personal transformations, that while are not obvious to all or what the world would consider amazing feats, are important (and dare I say life changing) for me. I've learned a lot about myself, and others in my life, and that's been eye-opening. On a personal level, in 2013 I want to start fresh in a way, shedding all of the old baggage once and for all, giving it up to the Lord (and this time not rush back to get it all back from Him), and positive change.

    READ THIS!

that's one thing I don't like about the kindle. we have three registered to my account, my husband's, my son's, and myhusband's mom's. all the info shows up from my account because it's registered under my account. While I don't think mil will go on a buying spree, it is sort of creepy at times seeing al her romance novels on the other kindles, lol, or so ds says I think the reason they're able to charge like that is that they may have "one click" buying selected on their devices, and you don't have it on yours. Maybe worth checking out. What you could do is go to your Amazon account, under the 'manage my kindle" section and DEACTIVATE their devices from your account. Then they can set up their own Amazon accounts (if they don't have them already) and re-register their Kindles under their own accounts . They will no longer have access to your info, your books/other items, or ability to purchase on your account. That's the route I'd take, even just for privacy's sake.
  6. I hope everyone is staying safe in the bad weather, esp. those traveling. we just got rain, then a dusting of snow. tomorrow they're calling for a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Ick, I don't like that slippery stuff.
  7. I hope everyone had a great day!
  8. Fellow elves would be calling me Buddy Pointy Toes
  9. I was at Kohl's yesterday and saw they have their Kitchen Aids on sale -- and they have that 15%, 20% or 30% off for those with a Kohls card, and Kohl's cash ($10 for every $50 spent) -- that could really work out to a decent savings on a brand new machine. I tried to remember the prices .. I think the 275 watts were $229 on sale before any additional discounts, 375 : $299, and the 600's $449. Granted that's from memory, but a ballpark nonetheless. I think with the 30% off coupon (I was lucky and got one of those) -- it would be just around $320-ish, then $60 in Kohls cash for a future purchase. Whichever route he takes,new/refurbished, eBay/other store, I think he'll be happy with the Kitchen Aid when/if he gets it
  10. I received your ornament too, Windmorn, thank you, it's so pretty and looks great on my tree with the others Loved the exchange with you all
  11. I love the lawyer one my cat does the drinking the tree water, he gets so excited when I add more to the tree stand, and he turns his nose up at his regular old water bowl. must be something in that tree water LOL
  12. I hope things are going better today, jeepers
  13. Cat and Gofish, thank you SO much for sharing those links. Lou Xiaoying truly is a hero, and I feel if people like her were looked up to more, the world would be a much better place. She's more of a hero than a sports figure, actor, etc who are usually the ones kids/teens/adults look up to. This bit from the article 'I realised if we had strength enough to collect garbage how could we not recycle something as important as human lives,' she explained. stuck with me. What a beautiful person, giving out of her need, showing so much love and care. I can't thank you enough for sharing that.
  14. Yesterday I read that some people were already citing the tragedy as a 'we need stronger gun restrictions" and then just a few minutes ago I read on Yahoo an article in which one of the mom's neighbors was quoted as saying he wanted to know why the mom had guns. Oh, and the article cited she homeschooled too. Owning guns and homeschooling aren't the issues (imo) but that seems to be the media's take on it.
  15. Hmmm, while WormGuy has Cat distracted with the pie and Midnightmom by taking her snowmen peeps, I think I may be able to swoop in to get some of the fudge before Jeepers cans/dehydrates/freezes it all the maple nut fudge will be mine .... maybe even some of Philbe's peanut butter fudge can come my way when she's not looking... maybe we need to form alliances, like on Survivor LOL
  16. I saw an idea on tv the other day (on one of the new Doomsday prepper episodes, I confess ). the idea was pretty neat though -- the fella had a 'safe' for a box spring for his bed. It I am sure was expensive, it looked sturdy, had a lock and such. However, I started thinking that there could be a way to convert a regular old box spring (now I think they just call them 'foundations" .. at least that's what the lady called them when we got a new set a few years ago ... anyhoo...). Our box spring/foundation is in two parts (we rent, and in our previous apartment, a standard queen size wouldn't fit around the corner in the stairwell so the furniture store lady suggested the two parter after that). Our cat clawed off some of the black material beneath it, and I noticed there's some decent storage room in there! I started thinking, I could probably take each of the two sections, overturn them, fill them with lighter weight stuff (since they'd have to be lifted back on to the bed frame rails) and then since I'd need something other than flimsy fabric to hold it all in, maybe some plywood stapled/nailed in to place. I figure if the roaming hoardes or whomever ever come, and ransack, they'd maybe throw the mattress off thinking we'd have money or something hidden beneath the mattress or bed, but I wonder if they'd think of the box spring/foundation? Hmmm... this is something I'm giving a lot of thought to. We're short on storage space as it is, this could possibly work. (at least that's what I am thinking at the moment)
  17. I have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer, and I use the dough hook for my doughs. It works great. I've had it for probably 11-12 years (give or take) and know I didn't pay $300, but of course prices have gone up. I got mine at Sam's Club, and it included the paddle, dough hook, wire whisk, and also a grinder attachment. Looking quickly on Amazon, they do have some models for $275, not much of a savings, but still a smidge less.
  18. It takes a special kind of wacko to target little kids like that, I read that the school is for kids in kindergarten through 4th grade, they're just babies for goodness sake.
  19. The horrific news of the school shooting at a Newtown Connecticut elementary school is on Yahoo and ABCnews.com has me praying up a storm for those children and their families. My heart sank even more when Coastygirl shared in the shoutbox that her husband's grandkids go to that school. Praying intently for all of those children and families, and for Coastygirl, her husband, and parents of the children, to get news they are safe. I cannot even begin to imagine what they're going through! (((coastygirl))))
