Dee Posted December 4, 2002 Share Posted December 4, 2002 BROWN STONE FRONT CAKE 2 cups brown sugar 1/2 cup butter 3 egg yolks 1 cup sour milk or buttermilk 1 cup chopped walnuts 1/2 tsp. allspice 1 cup stewed raisins 2-1/2 cups flour 1 tsp. soda 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 3 egg whites, stiffly beaten Sift flour and spices together. Add baking soda. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks. Add dry ingredients and milk alternately. Add nuts and raisins and egg whites. Bake at 350 until done. ------------------ Quote Link to comment

This cake is a Southern Delicacy so I assumed it was passed on to Amish relatives. Also the Amish people refer to a Brown Stone Front as a room in the front of their homes where all the cooking and baking are done. I hope this helps ------------------ Quote Link to comment
