Percysgirl
I'm SO EXCITED!!! This made my week. I got a crock today for making sauerkraut and other lacto-fermented vegetables. It holds 30 pounds at once, and it will keep in the crock for months. Now I can preserve all of my cabbage harvest at one time. I also got some lock jars to make kombucha and water kefir. Tracie
Kewl!!! Where does one get that sort of thing? I was contemplating a crock for old fashioned pickles. Link to comment
cap
Crocks are still available. I got 3 gal crocks from our local feed store. Also Lehman's has them in their catalog. They are great for pickles and sauerkraut. I love mine. Link to comment
Cat
Goodwill and Salvation Army stores are often good places to look for crocks. You can buy online (eBay or shopgoodwill.com), but then you have shipping and can't examine a used crock in person. Link to comment
Percysgirl
I use mine for making sauerkraut, due to the high Vitamin C and probiotic content. If you do it right, it will have more probiotics in it than a probiotic pill you buy at the health food store. Lehmans does have them. Mine is the 4 gallon. http://www.lehmans.com/shopping/product/...1&keyword=crock Link to comment
Crazy4Canning
I got mine - a #3 crock and a #2 glass crock from my grandma. Link to comment
Frugal Cook
I think that I'll be saving for these. I'll get them when I go to Lehman's in April. Link to comment

Percysgirl
Well, I have to say the only reason I was able to do it was that I lucked up on coming up on a killer deal on Craig's list. Otherwise, I'd still be dreaming, too! This one will hold 30 pounds of cabbage at one time to make sauerkraut. I'll have to pack it where it will 'live' because the crock itself is so heavy I about can't pick it up. So when it's time to make kraut, I'll have to put it where it's going to stay to pack it.
