Know what a "Pilonidal Cyst" is???

It's rather obscure, but my older DD has it & I'm wondering if anyone else here has had or been close enough to someone else who had it to give me more recent info.

 

I've looked it up on the 'net & that's where I learned some.

 

Apparently my SIL, FIL, and *his* dad have had them, but it's been a while. Some recommend surgery, others don't.

 

Nasty thing... painful & "gross".

I have seen this when I worked in the Hospital as a teen. I can ask my mom and see what she says about this Cat and get back to you.

I took her to the Dr. & I had the diagnosis right. We'd already gently expressed a lot if not most of the contents, so the Dr. just examined it, told us how to keep it clean & covered, and said to come back in 2 weeks for an exam.

 

DD thought Mom was just over-reacting to a boil or bad pimple, so I showed her what I found on the 'net, and she read some *fairly* recent stories from others.

 

The stories of recurrence & surgeries helped her understand what she's up against, plus I talked to her about the importance of cross-checking internet sources.

 

I think she understands it better now, and will help me help *her* keep it under control & clean.
