CoM
Who knew you could do this with an old blender!! Just found this neat idea for an old blender. I just recently got rid of mine and bought a new one that will not work. Will have to find one at a garage sale, I guess. It seems that in the old days when you bought a blender it also came with a mason jar. You could attach the jar instead of the pitcher and use it to make whip cream, peanut butter or grind spices right in the jar! Check it out! http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/tip_blender_and_mason_jar/ Quote Link to comment
snapshotmiki
I had no idea I could do that! Thanks COM! Quote Link to comment
WormGuy
Two weeks ago when I dried some hash browns I half filled a pint jar and pulverized them into a powder. They are a little grainy, but hey they take up less space and if I get hungry enough I'll eat them. Any jar that a standard ring will fit will fit the blender. John Quote Link to comment
Dee
I had no idea. That's really cool! Quote Link to comment

Canned Nerd
A very old procedure for a new generation or two. It's so easy to forget things or pass on common shortcuts as the years passed. Oster blenders did this for years and even had small containers with handles and lids, which you can still see showing up on eBay. That's where I sold mine after I moved on to a Ninja and Ball had those plastic lids for the canning jars. My favorite mug is still the canning jar with a handle on it. Quote Link to comment
themartianchick
My favorite mug is still the canning jar with a handle on it. I remember those! I also like the salt and pepper shakers that look like Ball canning jars with handles. Quote Link to comment
Motherhen
I had one of those and didn't know what it was for. That was about 20 yrs.ago when I had that one--maybe more??? You're probably thinking...didn't she read the manual? And I'm sure I did, but it must not have said anything about it...or you'd think I'd KNOW what they were for. :grinning-smiley-044:Goodness..I don't think I'm that stupid but ....who knows??? Jori
Awesome! I don't remember my mom ever doing this. Quote Link to comment
CoM
I was in Big Lots today & they had a cheap Oster, 19.00 that had the threads.. The base just unscrewed from the pitcher. I wouldn't buy one just for that but will look at garage sales, etc. Quote Link to comment
Canned Nerd
It's not just Oster blenders. My old Hamilton Beach had the same internal threads even though the the outside of the base was unique for that blender. Just just have to test with a canning jar. Quote Link to comment
Trudy
My mom gave me an Oster Center with all the gadgets for a wedding gift almost 38 years ago, and I still use it almost every day! The best thing to chop onions, celery etc. It chops without turning to mush like some of the others I've tried. I still have the plastic jar containers, but I'm with Canned Nerd on the jar with the handle being my favorite. I also kept my moms for extra parts if I ever need them. I love my Oster! I had one of those for many many years. I loved that thing and used it until the motor would barely turn and you could tell it was about to tear up anytime. I got it when we first got married and it really did get some use! Was a GOOD one to!!! Quote Link to comment
The WE2's
Guess I'll have to check my blenders. Can't even remember their name right now :-) But...I have three Magic Bullet blenders (one stays in our travel trailer) and they work great for my small jobs. It sits on my kitchen counter, plugged in, with the blade and one of the small jars ready to go :-) We especially enjoy them for smoothies etc. For grinding my spices (or other really small jobs) I just use my coffee grinder. Midnightmom
I believe there was another thread on this some time ago. I remember posting about being careful to make sure that the blender blades clear the inside edging of the jar. Quote Link to comment
ArmyOfFive4God
... and even had small containers with handles and lids... I have 4 for my Osters... (& a Ninja Mega System...) Quote Link to comment
Littlesister
Wow! I never knew you could use a canning jar with your blender. That is great. And I will be giving that a trial run. I have the ninja blender and that thing is a beast. Works really great, and if I can use the canning jars that would make it even better. Quote Link to comment
