gofish
When I got sick for 5 weeks with a sinus infection and bronchitis I found a lump near my thyroid. The ultrasound showed 2 small nodules on my thyroid. My doctor and the radiologist don't think it looks like cancer. I was given the choice of getting a second opinion from a surgeon or wait 6 months and get another ultrasound of my thyroid but the wait and see is idea is starting to freak me out. Mt_Rider
Hmm.....I think I'd be too impatient to wait, if it were me. MtRider (((Gofish)))) Quote Link to comment
Jeepers
They don't "THINK" it looks like cancer? You are going to have to get another ultra sound in 6 months anyway. Might as well get your second opinion now and get it done and over with. IF it is something, better to catch it early! The peace of mind alone will be worth it. Do it now and save yourself the stress and worry and you won't be kicking yourself in the behind 6 months from now for waiting. Quote Link to comment
dogmom4
I don't think I'd wait either. Quote Link to comment
sassenach
All they had to do was a needle biopsy. I get those every five years on my node on my para thyroid. Did they do a needle biopsy yet? Quote Link to comment
sassenach
Problem area ,even if it doesn't affect the thyroid itself and is benign, it can grow, sometimes very quickly and can affect swallowing if it impacts the esophagus and all those parts running down inside the neck, can affect windpipe, etc. If you start having any difficulties breathing or swallowing and its from nothing else, go immediately for a a thorough ultrasound and such. I had one friend who has what I have and while mine has remained tame, within a few months of the discovery of hers , it grew into her larynx area and into her swallowing ability and it had to be taken in very fast surgery as a result. So it is different and depends on the make up of the tumor /cyst, as well. Cancer is not the only concern involving this part of our bodies or thyroid behaviors. Quote Link to comment
gofish
I have a family history of cancer so yes I will have the second opinion. I'm still freaked out about this. Quote Link to comment
